Topic Sentence vs Thesis Statement: Differentiating Insights

     Both topic sentence and thesis statement have an important role in any text. Both statements talk about the main idea and concept of the content created. Thus can lead to such struggles of identifying the differences between a topic stentence and a thesis statement. Such similarities can lead to complications and confusion on how to use both correctly. Now, this leads us to this question: "What is the difference between a topic sentence and thesis statement?"     First of all, the thesis statement. The thesis statement is a road map of the text, it provides the reason and the direction of the entire text. Thesis statement is always located in the introductory part of the entire text. It can be located anywhere as long as it is in the introductory part of the text. It also controls the ideas of the text. It also provides after, the summary of the main point of the text.


      Second of all, the topic sentence. The topic sentence is the main idea of the paragraph. The topic sentence is the subject of the text and contains a controling ideas of a text. A topic sentence is located on each paragraph of the entire text. It is also known as the focus text. It also helps in capsulizing and organizing the entire paragraph.


    The difference between these two in particular is mainly how it is used. Thesis statement is used when introducing a claim, a theory, an opinion and an argument. Thesis statement also has three supporting details or evidences to prove their text. Lastly, it also covers the main idea of the entire text/content. As for topic sentence, it is used when introducing any idea of a text. It only has atleast one supporting detail. Topic sentences also covers the entire idea of an entire paragraph. Which also means that each paragraph has one topic sentence.


    To sum it up, thesis statement and topic sentences both have similarities, explaining their main points and being able to control the entire flow of the text. Thesis statement that covers up the entire idea of the text with several details and the topic sentence that covers up one entire idea of each paragraph with lesser details. To conclude this blog, both the topic sentence and thesis statement have their significance and good uses to the text that each individual creates. Moreover, it is important to understand how to properly use both of these in creating texts.
